ABOUT BEMBESITO

Bembesito is a vocalist and percussionist that specializes in Afro caribbean folk and spiritual music. You will enjoy sounds from all the caribbean, specifically from Haiti and Dominican Republic, Cuba, and even Puerto Rico. Bembesito is one of the most versatile vocalists when it comes to Afro diaspora music. Bembesito recorded his first solo debut geared more to his native Dominican roots roots.

In this first production he captures some of the traditional songs for the deities of Dominican vodoun, also known as the 21 Divisions. This album features Afro-Dominican drums known as palos or atabales, this genre is the most wide spread style in the Dominican Republic. There are many variations of palo drumming throughout the island, this production features styles from San Cristobal, San Juan de la Maguana and the Cibao region.

On Bembesito's second he will take you on a musical journey in Tambores de Kiskeya. This album features folk-spiritual music from Haiti and the Dominican Rep. The album features music you will hear in Vodou ceremonies throughout the island. It also features other spiritual-folk genres that are unique to a specific region like, Sarandunga from Bani Dom Rep., or Congos of Villa Mella Dom Rep. We can also listen to various styles of funerary music traditions called palo de muerto (palo drums of the dead). Tambores de Kiskeya showcases the African influence inherited on both sides of the island, the music and traditions are what ultimately unites the two nations sharing one island.

The new album "21 Division Debajo Del Agua" once again captures the rich traditional music of the island. This album focuses more on the Palo drum genre featuring styles mainly from Baní, San juan de la Maguana and San Crisobal. This production also features two more Haitian style rhythms, one being "Nago" and the other "Mayí".

Bembesito also performs for many Cuban santeria and 21 Division ceremonies throughout the United States and beyond.
